Individual Skill Development

Working on individual skills is all about repetition. You need to pick 2-3 skills that you are going to work in a session and stick to these skills. Each particular skill you want to dedicate 20 to 30 minutes on honing your technique and improve your power or speed depending on the skill. It's important that you find a rhythm during your training sessions as you want to get the most out of them as you can. The more often you train and the harder you work, the bigger the results will be. Below are some ideas that will help you improve your training sessions:

1) If you are unable to find a partner to train with the next best thing is finding a park or an area that has a wall that you can pass the ball into and receive it again. When practicing your passing into a wall it's important that you pick a specific spot and try to consistently hit that target as much as possible. Equally when receiving the ball you want to keep the ball moving, practicing your turns and changes of direction.

2) If you have the available funds it's ideal if you can have a number of balls, as this improve the effectiveness of your training in a wide range of different drills but specifically shooting.

3) It's best if you have a training buddy is this opens up even more opportunities for different drills. It also creates competition as you can practice your 1V1skills, teaching you how to beat a defender, and it also teaches you how to keep the ball from a defender.

4) it's important that you work on your dribbling ability as much as possible. For beginners is recommended that you learn to keep the ball under control while dribbling in a straight line, also practicing your turns making sure that you use both feet. As you become more advanced you can begin zigzagging through cones, then getting to the stage where you can start to throw dummies while dribbling through the cones.

5) juggling. Helps tremendously with ball control and his best utilize as a warm up or warm down. You can work on tricks during your juggling as this will make it more enjoyable and entertaining. Try to work on more game realistic situations by practicing transitions from juggling into dribbling drills or shooting.

It's important that you plan your sessions so that you can gain the most out of the training session as possible, remembering to pick two or three skills that you are going to dedicate the session to and work on. Keeping in mind that repetition is the key.
